Visual Impairment

Visual Impairment was the foundation of cbm’s work and still forms a large part of the programmes we provide.

Over 45 million people worldwide are affected by blindness – with over 98% of these living in the developing world. 

Up to 80% of this blindness is preventable and for those who are permanently blind significant steps can be taken to provide a high quality of life. cbm works across all these areas to provide a range of services in the areas of surgical treatment, education, visual aids and blindness prevention programmes.

Major causes of visual impairment include:

• Cataract
• Glaucoma
• River Blindness
• Trachoma
