Overseas Staff - cbm co-workersIn 2005, 16 experts were sent out to partner organisations supported by cbmi. Among them were 32 ophthalmologists; 6 orthopaedic surgeons; and 2 ear, nose, and throat specialists. In addition, eye nurses, physiotherapists, and other experts worked overseas for cbm. We refer to these staff as cbm 'co-workers', and they come from Western and Eastern Europe, the U.S., Africa, Asia and Pacific.
A precondition for sending out professional personnel is that the partner requests this kind of support. An expert is sent out if there is no possibility of recruiting the needed specialist within the country itself. Priority is given to postings where it is possible to train national staff. Main Objectivescbm co-workers serve as professional coaches for experts and voluntary personnel, both within the project itself or nationwide. The trained specialists pass on their knowledge to further generations of medical, educational, or rehabilitation staff. This leads to a multiplying and long-lasting effect and thus contributes to the sustainability of cbm’s work.
