India SouthRehabilitation Centre for Blind WomenThe Rehabilitation Centre for Blind Women is located in Trichy, Tamilnadu. This is one of India’s very few projects exclusively for women with disabilities. It is a project of an independent society where young blind women from rural areas are trained in vocational trades such as bakery, tailoring or candle making, amongst other trades. The women are placed in gainful economic occupations in their communities after the training. Recently, the project has begun community based rehabilitation work.
National Association for the Blind Teachers Training Programme
National Association for the Blind is a reputed NGO providing infrastructure and equipment for the successful preparation of primary school teachers to teach visually impaired children in Mumbai, Maharashtra. They also make efforts to motivate the government to appoint the teachers in schools. The duration of the courses conducted by them is one year and annually trains up to 20 students.

St. John's HospitalSt. John's Hospital in Kattapanna, Kerala is a general hospital situated 90 km northeast of Kottayam run by the Catholic Medical Brothers. Mobile eye camps are organized by the hospital wherein a team of doctors, refractionists, nurses and other field workers go into the village/community to screen patients with eye problems and bring them to the hospital for surgeries. The hospital's catchment area includes Kottayam, the Idukki District and Theni District in Tamil Nadu, reaching a population of 700,000 people living in a hilly terrain. The Clarke School for the DeafThe Clarke School for the Deaf is located in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. The school provides educational services to children with hearing impairment, mental retardation and deaf-blindness through secondary levels. The different levels of education include pre-primary, primary and secondary. Vocational training is provided for students in the senior level. The school’s catchment is a population of approximately 4.2 million in Chennai and in rural areas through their outreach programmes. In the outreach programme, non-formal education and therapeutic services like speech therapy, special education and pre-primary schooling are provided.
Madonna High School for the Deaf
Madonna High School for the Deaf, located in the outskirts of Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh run by Immaculate Heart of Mary Society - a Catholic congregation. This school provides quality education, mostly to children with hearing impairment from slums and nearby villages. It also has a residential facility for those in need. Education is provided from pre-school through to college level. Senior students are taught a vocational training during their schooling. New initiatives like training in fashion designing and computers are planned. Campus is spacious with good infrastructure. SAMUHA Community Based RehabilitationSamuha-Samarthya is situated in Raichur District, Karnataka. The project provides cross disability Community Based Rehabilitation to the rural population. The primary focus is to promote awareness on disabilities issues and providing rehabilitation services to persons with disabilities. Formation and promotion of Self Help Groups and Disabled Persons Organisations ensure persons with disabilities and their families can work together to achieve their goals/needs are part of their activities.
Rural Health Training Centre - CBR Project, CSI Mission HospitalThe Rural Health Training Centre was established by Western missionaries in 1905, and today is a 100 bed hospital. Apart from routine hospital services, community services are provided in Trivandrum district in the coastal areas serving the fishermen folks, who have very low health standards compared to the rest of population in Kerala. Community based rehabilitation activities in the project include: providing health, education and legal awareness programmes; medical camps; screening programmes; focus group discussions; surgical interventions; distribution of assistive devices; counseling; vocational training and rehabilitation of persons with disabilities.
