BangladeshView Bangladesh in a larger map Disaster Preparedness in South Asia RegionThe area of Northern India, Bangladesh and Nepal is extremely disaster prone, being characterised by drought, floods, cyclones, landslides and earthquakes. Bangladesh, in particular faces extreme flooding during the monsoon season when rivers exceed their capacity and conversely experience severe drought when rainfall is insufficient. The area also has densely concentrated populations, thus disasters extract a high toll in human loss and suffering. Considering the susceptibility to disasters of the regions, the critical needs of local organisations in disaster preparedness, and the specific needs and vulnerabilities of persons with disabilities in emergencies, this project builds capacity for key players in emergency response. |
