Mwami Adventist Hospital is situated in Eastern Province of Zambia, 30 km from the town of Chipata. It is run by the Zambian Adventist Church. The eye department is presently the only eye care provider in the Eastern Province, which has a population of about 1.3 million people. Half of blindness in this region is caused by cataracts, followed by glaucoma and corneal scarring as lead causes of blindness. The eye department comprises an outpatient clinic, an optical workshop, an eye drop production unit, a medical ward, and an operating room.
