Water eye care project - Addis Ababa

This project is run by the Society of International Missionaries' (SIM). It offers primary health care and safe water projects located in the southern part of Ethiopia, including the areas of Borana, Jimma and Arsi in Oromiya, Bench Maji and South Omo. SIM's activities mainly concentrate on the provision of safe water in the project areas contributing to the "F" and "E" component of the "SAFE strategy" for the control of trachoma in these remote, underserved and drought stricken areas. SAFE stands for Surgery, Antibiotics, Face washing and Environmental sanitation, a comprehensive strategy to fight trachoma.

 

Misrach Handicrafts Training and Rehabilitation Centre

The Misrach Training and Rehabilitation Center was established by the Swiss Evangelical Nile Mission in Addis Ababa. The centre aims at providing vocational training in wood and metalwork, broom making, tailoring, optical works, and other marketable skills for persons with disabilities. After completion of the training, the people get startup capital and tools to engage in employment. At the same time, the centre produces furniture, household materials, spectacles, clothes, brooms and post cards for local market to generate a sustainable income. Braille Literacy, and Orientation and Mobility training are also part of the service package of the centre. The target groups are Persons with Hearing, Visual and Locomotors Impairments between the ages of 18–30.

 

CBR Network

The Community-Based Rehabilitation Network Ethiopia (CBRN-E) is based in Addis Ababa, and was established for capacity development, coordination, experience sharing elaboration of best practices and resources sharing among actors in rehabilitation and developement sectors, which adhere to CBR strategy. All disability and development focused organisations which use CBR strategy are members of the network in different levels of membership status. The network has developed standards on CBR service delivery to ensure quality and rights based approach. Community involvement and ownership, skills transfer, poverty alleviation and community empowerment are among the focal areas being addressed. The main objective of the network is capacity development of CBR actors at grass-root through training, experience sharing, workshops and information eschange.
