Dr Allen Foster, President of cbm international and Professor in International Eye Health at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. Allen spent 10 years in Tanzania as a technical expert training hundreds of medical staff around Africa. He returned to the UK to become CBM’s International Medical Director and visited projects in Asia, Africa and Latin America. Allen was closely involved in the development of the Vision 2020 strategy and global initiative. He has numerous publications and several international awards but is best known for his passion and dedication to eye health.

Helen Leslie, Acting Deputy Director, Multilateral team of New Zealand Aid Programme. Helen joined the multilateral team within the New Zealand Aid Programme in March 2010 after returning from a three year posting in Samoa where she held the role of NZAID Manager. Helen joined MFAT (NZAID) in 2003 as the Health Advisor, a position which she held for three years. Helen’s previous work history was in the tertiary sector where she held academic positions in Development Studies at Massey University, Griffith University and the University of the South Pacific. Helen originally trained as a nurse and has combined her health knowledge with her academic training and practical experience in development.

Ms. Anne Hawker, President of Rehabilitation International. Anne has been involved in the disability community for 35 years at a local, regional, national and international level. She has undertaken a number of functions including in the voluntary sector as an advocate and a provider, policy maker, strategic thinker
In 2008, Anne was elected as the first female to be President of Rehabilitation International. Rehabilitation International was founded in 1922 and has been involved in ensuring participation of disabled people including the development of the Symbol of Access; assisting in the establishment of Paralympics; getting the UNCRPD on the international radar.
Currently Anne is employed as the Principal Disability Adviser with the Ministry of Social Development.

Dr Kirsty Thompson, Inclusive Development Director for cbm Australia and technical advisor to AusAID. After a long track record in hands-on, grassroots development work with mainstream NGOs, Kirsty turned to education and research in the fields of community health and rehabilitation, family wellbeing, community services and disability. In addition to working with cbm Australia, she works part-time with AusAID providing them with technical assistance in implementing their inclusive development strategy.
Unfortunately, Dr. Thompson was unable to attend the conference and had a last minute change of plans. Mr. Darren Ward, National Director of cbm New Zealand presented in her place. View his presentation here.

Sally Hewlett, Programmes Coordinator, ChildFund New Zealand. Sally is the Programmes Coordinator at ChildFund New Zealand, working as Country Manager for Zambia. Her background and passion is in the area of education, specifically in promoting an inclusive, quality education for all. ChildFund New Zealand is a member of the ChildFund Alliance, which works in 56 countries around the world to support deprived, excluded and vulnerable children. They do this is partnership with the communities where they work.
