cbm staff member wins award
cbm staff member wins award We’re pleased to announce that long-serving cbm staff member, David Lewis has been honoured with a prestigious award from ACFID (Australian Council for International Development). At the organisation’s annual dinner recently, David was presented with the 2011 Award for Outstanding Service in International Development. The award recognises David’s long history and dedicated service working with people in poverty with a disability and also the contribution he’s made to promoting disability within the International Aid and Development community. David has served with cbm in many capacities, including spending seven years in the countries of Sierra Leone and Niger, West Africa where he worked with people with disabilities to establish sustainable agricultural projects for the poorest communities and access to essential medical and rehabilitation services. As the conflict escalated in Sierra Leone, David worked to ensure refugees with disabilities and their families reached help and safety. This award is a wonderful acknowledgement of David’s achievements over more than two decades with cbm. We are very proud of David, and his professional yet humble approach continues to inspire us all to do more for the poorest people with disabilities. David has asked us to give a special ‘thank you’ to our supporters who so faithfully prayed for his wife Cate over the past few years when she was very ill with leukaemia. She is now in much better health. Please join us in congratulating David as together we strive to end the cycle of poverty and disability.
