cbm partner trains orthopaedic surgeons
First Kenyan trained orthopaedic surgeons to graduate in 2011 Kenya for the first time will have orthopaedic surgeons officially trained locally at AIC CURE, Kijabe Mission Hospital and Moi University Teaching and Referral Hospital. The college of Surgeons of Eastern Central and Southern Africa (COSECSA) Orthopaedic Surgery Training Program accredited these institutions in 2007, to run an orthopaedic residency program in Kenya. cbm’s Partner, AIC CURE through AO foundation financial support was the first in Kenya to begin this program five years ago. Other university based orthopaedic training programs have since been established. Currently, there are only 50 registered orthopaedic surgeons in Kenya all who have received their training from outside the country. Dr. Francis Mbugua and Dr. Henry Ndasi of AIC CURE have now completed their fellowship level and recently travelled to Zambia to sit for their final exam. The institution currently has six resident doctors total participating in the COSCECSA orthopaedic Residence Program. AIC CURE plans to train 14 more doctors by the year 2018. Jack Muthuli (AIC CURE Executive Director) appreciated cbm’s Partnership through a formal communiqué where he stated, "let me take this early opportunity to thank you for partnering with us to enable provision of quality care to the disabled child in Kenya." |
