cbm-supported programme Takeo Eye Hospital in Cambodia celebrated World Sight Day by offering free eye consultation and surgeries from 12th - 14th October 2011. The event was announced in public and highly acknowledged by Cambodian people.


Celebration on World Sight Day

Takeo Eye Hospital celebrated World Sight Day for three days started from 12th - 14th October 2011 by offering free eye care services to people of all ages. This year, the event was more communicated and announced to public by information sharing with stakeholders, banners and radio programme.

Both new and existing patients were having eye examination by eye doctors and received eye health services such as eye consultation, medicines, eye glasses, refraction services and surgeries. In addition to free eye services, on 12th October before the opening ceremony began, the hospital also provided 30 minutes education on eye health and information of available eye services in Cambodia. There were approximately 400 patients participated.

Achievement and recognition

During these three days, there were 842 patients came for eye consultation and 104 patients had eye operation. It was 82% of patients who received operation were cataract patients and 155 eye glasses were distributed.

This event was highly achieved regarding public recognition from stakeholders such as people, patients, government representatives, heath NGOs and mass media.
