Horn of Africa food crisis

Horn of Africa food crisis
Somali women displaced by severe drought conditions queue to get food handouts at a centre operated by the government and local NGOs, south of Mogadishu July 7, 2011.

More than 10 million affected

An increasing number of people are fleeing drought and conflict in Somalia, with currently over 1000 per day reaching refugee camps in Kenya and Ethiopia. In total, more than 10 million people are now affected.

According to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), 2011 has been the driest period in the Eastern Horn of Africa since 1995 and there is no likelihood of improvement until early 2012.

How you can help

cbm's Emergency Response Unit is in contact with our partners in the region, and together, we are working to ensure we can support the people in most need, especially those with disabilities and those at risk of disability.

You can help cbm fight famine in the Horn Of Africa, and other drought affected parts of the continent, by donating to the cbm.
