Goroka Eye Clinic - PNG's sight saver Dr. Darman is a very busy Ophthalmologist working at the Goroka Eye Clinic. The clinic supports the entire population of the remote Eastern Highlands of Papua New Guinea. On an average day at the Goroka Eye Clinic, Dr. Darman sees between 25 to 70 patients in the OPD and performs 12-23 SICS surgeries. In a year, he will restore the sight of nearly 2000 people. He wants to do more. The clinic is too small to prep patients outside theatre, so Dr. Darman loses precious surgery time. We want to change that. We need your help - your generous donation - to refurbish the clinic so prep can happen outside theatre. Your generous gift will enable Dr. Darman to restore the sight of thousands more patients over the coming years. Last year with the help of a team of guest Ophthalmologists, the Goroko Clinic performed 10,000 operations. Thousands of them happened in outreach surgeries under thatched roofs in the jungle, because many patients cannot travel to the Clinic. The Goroka Eye Clinic charges patients far less than the real cost of restoring sight: less than $35! This is still a monumental investment for a family affected by cataracts, but it offers so much hope for a better life.Sight is vital, but especially to someone who is living in severe poverty in one of the world’s most remote and isolated places.
