Restoring the sight of children

Share/Bookmark

"What do you want of me," Jesus asked the blind man.

"I want to see."

Ali_and_brother_Mohammed.JPGIf you met Ali, he’d probably reach out his hands and touch your face. He’d explore your eyebrows with his fingers, and spread his palms across your cheeks.

And though he’d smile to meet you, the truth is there hasn’t been much to smile about in his life.

Tears form in the corners of his eyes as his mother, Omary, explains that to keep him from being hurt, she kept him inside – all day, every day. Disabilities are sometimes thought to be a curse, and children like Ali are often ostracised, or worse. So Ali’s entire world is inside the four walls of his mud home. He is alone, and in darkness.

Omary is protecting her child the best way she knows how. And with good reason. In poor countries like Tanzania, around half of all children who go blind will die within two years.

Ali is fortunate to have survived this long, when so many other children will not.

Ali_smiling.JPGRight now our Hospital in Tanzania is planning how many cataract operations they’ll be able to do before Christmas.

Your
donation today of $35 can save someone from a fate worse than blindness, by healing their sight.

Your gift is the only chance these children have, because families in the countries where cbm works simply cannot afford the treatment.

This is the reason cbm does what we do. We’re told in Micah 6:8, What doth the Lord require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?  It’s our calling and our privilege to share God’s mercy with as many children like Ali as possible.

Yet we can only do this with your help.

Ali_1.JPGThink about this:

$35     could give the gift of sight to ONE adult
$105   for THREE sight-restoring cataract surgeries
$230   to give a lifetime of sight to ONE child* like Ali

Whichever you choose, send your gift before 30 June, so we can plan the number of operations for the rest of this year. If you prefer can call our friendly phone team on FREE Call 0800 77 22 64.
Or donate securely here.

*Children require an anaesthetic for their operation.
