More Than Just a Smile

Can you imagine seeing your baby for the first time, and realising that they’ll face rejection for life?

Child_pre_cleft_palate_operation.JPGWhen people saw baby Collin - despite his beautiful, big brown eyes and chubby cheeks- they said ‘Ojok’. It means cursed by God.

Collin was born with a cleft palate, a very common birth defect. Zuhura, his mother tells us:
‘My neighbours found him frightening and I never took him out of the house.’

Zuhura was determined that there had to be a better future for her son, where he was no longer isolated or cursed by people in his local community. Travelling a long and difficult journey to Mengo Hospital, Zuhura had the courage to find people who could help baby Collin smile.

Baby Collin arrived in cbm’s expert care just in time; he was already beginning to starve. Cleft palates make it hard for children to swallow properly leading to rapid malnutrition.
Our doctors are experts in making children smile. But a cleft palate is far more serious than simply a cosmetic problem, we’ve seen too many children like baby Collin die from neglect or starvation.

Your gift of $30 can help our Community Health Workers find children like baby Collin. And $150 will help provide healing surgery, saving their lives.

Collin is one of our many miracles, he can smile and his little tummy is full.

We invite you to become a cbm supporter, it’s people like you who generously give, that save lives and offer hope to desperate parents and children like Zuhura and baby Collin.

Jesus tells us of the Roman Centurion who would not give up and begged Him to heal his son. cbm see the reality of this with parents like Zuhura who simply will not give up the fight for their children’s lives.

But there are so many more children to save and the sad reality is, without your continuing support many children with cleft palates will simply not survive.
