FAQs on Child Disability Sponsorship
Who is cbm?
cbm, formerly Christian Blind Mission, is the world’s largest development organisation specialising in all kinds of disability. For over 100 years cbm has been working with the world’s most vulnerable people suffering the double disadvantage of poverty and disability. Why focus on disability? Everyone wants to make poverty history. However because poverty increases disability, and disability increases poverty, the poverty problem will never be solved unless we address disability. Disability is very common in the poorest countries: 8 out of 10 people with disabilities live in developing countries. In many places, 8 out of 10 children with disabilities die before the age of five. Also, people with disabilities are often denied the human rights we take for granted in New Zealand. They may even be sent to the back of the queue to receive life's basic needs, such as food, water and health care. What disabilities do the children have? cbm helps people with disabilities of every kind, such as blindness, deafness, mobility issues, birth defects, learning difficulties and mental health. cbm works with people of all ages, but Child Disability Sponsorship focuses on the children, because they are especially vulnerable. With the right help early on, they can have bright futures, but they need your help. How does sponsorship work? As a sponsor, you donate a monthly gift. Your gift is used to fund projects that meet the life-saving and ongoing needs of children living in poverty with disability. How much does sponsorship cost? Being a cbm Child Disability Sponsor costs $30 a month. You can become a sponsor by clicking here. Why is regular giving important? It is important to know we have the funding to keep caring for a child through the whole of their care plan. Is my regular gift tax rebateble? Yes. cbm is a registered charity so you can claim your sponsorship against your tax. For your convenience, we will send you a receipt for your total giving at the end of each tax year. How will I know my sponsorship is making an impact? When you become a sponsor your Welcome pack will include the first edition of a magazine called 'Shine', which reports on the progress of children within the sponsorship projects. Also, you will receive regular updates, letters and website links to keep you closely connected to the impact of your generosity. |
